We grew up at the Jersey Shore, on the outskirts of Eagles’ country, but were far enough from Philadelphia that our fandom was not mandatory. Like much of the generation that first learned about football in the 1970s, my friends and I became Steelers’ fans as little kids watching the team rampage through the NFL on their way to four Super Bowl titles in six seasons.
